Cubic joins winning Orion Technology Inc.
team
to bid for U.S. Army logistics support contracts
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jan. 30, 2007 -- The defense segment of Cubic
Corporation (Amex: CUB) is part of a contractor team that recently received
a five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract
that will allow the team to bid for up to $9 billion in U.S. Army logistics
contracts. The U.S. Army’s Southern Region Contracting Center-East
selected a team headed by Orion Technology Inc. of Huntsville, Alabama,
as one of 10 small business awardees for the U.S. Army’s new Field
and Installation Readiness Support Team (FIRST) program.
The FIRST program will cover logistics services both
in the United States and overseas. The support can include delivering
supply items, components
and equipment; operating large logistical support facilities;
and other services that will evolve along with the Army’s requirements. However,
one imperative will remain constant – that logistics functions
be performed quickly and accurately to support unit readiness
requirements. To receive an award, contractors were required to demonstrate
high technical
competence, exemplary management skills, and the ability
to staff and meet mission support requirements with little advance notice.
Cubic is one of 11 subcontractors serving on Orion’s
team, and looks forward to adding logistics support to the array of
services that
Cubic already provides the U.S. military.
“For many years, Cubic has provided systems, technology, training,
and operations and maintenance services to prepare military personnel
to successfully complete their missions,” said Kevin Hayes, vice
president and general manager of Cubic’s Worldwide Technical Services
Division. “In today’s Global War on Terror, the U.S. Army
needs contractor support to be able to quickly deliver materiel.
Cubic is pleased to expand the readiness support that we already offer
to also
include logistics.”
In addition to assisting the military in delivering needed
supplies expeditiously, private contractors are viewed as a cost-effective
way
to satisfy recurring military logistics requirements and
to meet the military’s small business and socioeconomic procurement
guidelines. Orion is a minority-owned business with offices in Huntsville,
Alabama;
Atlanta, Georgia; San Antonio, Texas; and Norfolk, Virginia.
The Worldwide
Technical Services Division, based in San Diego, is part of the Mission
Support Business Unit of Cubic Defense
Applications (CDA),
one of Cubic Corporation’s two major segments. CDA is a world leader
in realistic combat training systems, mission support services
and defense electronics. The corporation's other major segment,
Cubic Transportation
Systems, designs and manufactures automatic fare collection
systems for public mass transit authorities. For more information
